In this memorandum, the Advisory Committee provides guidance to colleges teaching students that are currently incarcerated in state prisons. They suggest that colleges teaching in prison focus on Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) in the subjects of Communication, Sociology and Psychology, and that they concentrate on the “golden four” requirements for entry into the California State University system. These requests address the key issues that are faced by students in prison. The successful completion of these requests would allow students to complete programs when transferring correctional facilities, and prepare them to continue their education at any community college or a California State University.
